Rich Gilligan | OFFSET Dublin 2019
Rich Gilligan | OFFSET Dublin 2019 Dublin-born, Brooklyn-based photographer Rich Gilligan balances commercial and portraiture work alongside documentary-like, naturalistic projects shaped by his passions.

Gilligan has captured an array of well-known Irish figures through his unique lens, including Cillian Murphy, Saoirse Ronan, Gabriel Byrne and award-winning musician Conor O’Brien of Villagers.

Having spent his teenage years in the tight-knit skateboarding community in Dublin, photographing the raw and fearless action of skaters on camera sparked his interest in the visual, Gilligan then went on to study at the University of Wales and the University of Ulster.

With an insatiable interest in documenting subcultures, Gilligan spent four years on his project DIY, travelling to makeshift guerilla skateparks around the world. Across urban landscapes like Derry in Northern Ireland, Portland, Oregon and Nantes in France, he captured the skating community’s drive and daring as they constructed illegally-built skating areas, homemade skate bowls and ramps by bustling motorway underpasses.
Aaron Duffy | OFFSET Dublin 2019
Aaron Duffy | OFFSET Dublin 2019 Aaron Duffy is the co-founder of SpecialGuest. His specialty is in communications and visual experimentation, often bringing a touch of humanity to technology and platforms that otherwise feel cold.

Since starting as a director at 1stAveMachine when he was 23, Aaron has had his work featured at the Saatchi&Saatchi new director’s showcase, has had work inducted into the MoMA’s archive for the art and technique of the America Commercial, was named a top 10 director by CreativityOnline, was featured in the Adweek Creative 100 and was named number one in Business Insider’s 30 most creative in advertising under 30.

Aaron traces his insight for SpecialGuest to one of the most simple projects he did early in his career, Google Parisian Love. It is proof that we do much more than advertising when we do our job well. We spotlight the emotion, value and glue between human beings and the products and services people choose to surround themselves with. It is Aaron’s belief that there is no system or methodology for creating that glue. It is made possible by a select few special people and the clients they are paired with. That is why SpecialGuest exists.

John Kennedy | OFFSET Dublin 2019
John Kennedy | OFFSET Dublin 2019 John Kennedy is creative director with Windmill Lane.

From an early interest in how stuff is put together (he was the kid who played with the broken toys) the power of a good story, and how computers gave him an excuse to give up drawing at art college, his career has seen him work as a bomb disposal robot designer, cheesemaker (sort of), graphic designer, editor, animator, music video director, photographer, writer, film maker, visual effects supervisor and more.

His time with Windmill has given him the opportunity to collaborate with some of the most interesting filmmakers, musicians, creative agencies, designers and brands in the world on a variety of projects across the advertising, feature film, TV and music industries. To namecheck a few, we’re talking; Guinness, Playstation, Kelloggs, McDonalds, U2, Stephen Soderbergh, Oliver Hirschbiegel, John Boorman, BBC & MTV among others.

Personal projects are of huge importance and essential he believes, to any creative’s repertoire. Not a fan of the “but that’s how we’ve always done it” approach, he has more recently been behind the establishment of Windmill Create, an award winning “in-house” motion and content creation studio at the heart of Windmill Lane dedicated to driving cultural change across all aspects of the studio, challenging convention and seeking new collaborative opportunities wherever possible through a more creative first, expertise driven offering.
